Kaka‘ako’s vibrant evolution continues with the introduction of Kahuina, a transformative mixed-use development from developer Standford Carr. Construction of Kahuina, which was originally set to begin in January 2024, has been delayed, pushing back the initial June 2026 completion date. Sales have not started—sign up below to receive notifications and stay informed about future updates on this project.
The name Kahuina is a nod to ka huina, which translates to "to come together, the crossroad" in Hawaiian. True to its name, Kahuina promises a diverse and inclusive community where residents and visitors can gather, work and enjoy the best of the Kaka‘ako lifestyle.
About Kahuina
Kahuina will have a total of 859 units, 60 percent of which will be designated as affordable housing, providing opportunities for local families to call Kaka‘ako home. Designed by local architecture firm Alakea Design Group, the project will consist of two towers, Tower A and Tower B.
Tower A will be 400 feet tall with 43 floors and consist of 329 market-rate units and 120 affordable units (for households earning 111% to 140% of AMI). Tower B will be shorter, at 301 feet tall and 32 floors. It will consist of 276 affordable units for purchase, 123 workforce rental units (for households earning 70% to 100% AMI and one manager’s unit), as well as 12 live/work units. The ground floor of Tower B will feature 35,000 square feet of commercial and retail spaces and a landscaped plaza at the corner of Auahi and Cooke Street. Tower B will house the 9-level parking garage and the recreation deck.
