Halloween season is creeping up, and there's plenty of spooky fun across Oahu. Whether you're hunting for keiki-approved fun or looking for chills and thrills after dark, we’ve rounded up the best events on the island so you can plan a spooktacular October filled with unforgettable memories.

Halloween Special Events & Costume Contests


Members’ Night at the Waikiki Aquarium: Animal Superheroes

5 p.m. – 8 p.m. | Sat., Oct. 11 

Waikiki Aquarium members can meet reef defenders like Sonarwhisk the goatfish, Symbio the clownfish, Regenera the coral banded shrimp and Crimson Bite the red-toothed triggerfish. Activities include a scavenger hunt, games, Halloween costume contest, mermaid photo ops and underwater pumpkin carving. Delicious bites from local vendors will also be available. Tickets required.

Keiki Sunday Halloween Festivities at Sea Life Park

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Sun., Oct. 12

Families are in for a treat with a special buy one adult admission, get one free child addmission offer for a special Halloween-themed Keiki Sunday at Sea Park. Guests can enjoy festive decorations, themed games, trick-or-treat stations, creative costumes and special character appearances.

Kailua Town Seek & Treat: The Hunt for Hidden Treasure

11 a.m. – 6 p.m. | Daily, Oct. 18-31 

Calling all sleuths and adventurers! Embark on a fun-filled quest through Kailua, collecting stamps, treats and hidden treasures along the way. Don’t forget to wear your best costume! Kahala Mall Costume Contest

Check-in: 4:30 p.m., contest begins at 5 p.m. | Fri., Oct. 24 

Keiki up to sixth grade are invited to join the 45th Annual Costume Contest at Kahala Mall for a chance to win prizes and gift cards from mall merchants. The contest features three age groups, with awards for Most Original, Funniest/Cutest and Judge’s Choice costumes. Families who coordinate their costumes around a single theme can also compete together for Best Overall Theme.

Hallow-Zoo at the Honolulu Zoo

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Sun., Oct. 26

The Honolulu Zoo invites keiki and their families to dress up in costume and enjoy a day of Halloween fun. Follow spooky clues filled with animal facts to track down the Zoo’s feathered ‘ohana and collect creature stamps, then continue along the Haunted Habitat Treat Trail, where 15 doors await trick-or-treaters. Activity stations will also feature animal bio-facts, Creepy Conservation partners and more—all included with regular zoo admission.

Keiki Costume Ball at Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center

10 a.m. – Noon or 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. | Sun., Oct. 26

Join the fun at the Children's Discovery Center's annual Keiki Costume Ball, where families can enjoy trick-or-treating throughout the Center, Halloween-themed crafts and plenty of spooky surprises. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Celebrate Halloween at Royal Hawaiian Center with trick-or-treating at participating merchants and the signature Keiki Costume Contest—the largest in Waikiki—happening in The Royal Grove from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. It’s a festive day of family fun you won’t want to miss!

Spooky Science Workshop

Calling all mini-mad scientists! The Spooky Science Workshop at the Children's Discovery Center is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween with hands-on experiments that ooze, bubble and amaze. The workshop includes 45 minutes of themed activities along with time to explore the exhibit galleries for a day of spooktacular fun. Registration required.

Hawaii State Public Libraries will host a variety of kid-friendly Halloween-themed events throughout the month of October. Haunted Houses for Teens and Grown-ups


Haunted Plantation

6 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (closes at 9 a.m. on Oct. 31) Fridays - Sundays in October 

Named "Hawaii's Scariest & Best Haunt" and one of the "10 Most Horrifying Haunted Houses in the U.S.," the Haunted Plantation features 19 haunted houses and more than 60 actors. Be warned: This one isn't for the faint of heart, and parking is limited.

Trial of Fears

This interactive haunted house combines the chills of a haunted maze with the challenge of an escape room. Guests will face immersive sets, live actors, and spine-tingling puzzles that test both courage and wit. Solve the clues to make it out—or risk being trapped by your fears.
