7th Annual International Aloha Koi Show

The Waikiki Aquarium will host Hawaii’s largest koi show on Feb. 15 and 16. The 7th Annual International Aloha Koi Show will feature hundreds of top-quality koi for purchase and display, in addition to educational seminars given by koi experts, a variety of authentic Japanese performances and keiki activities.

“The 7th Annual Koi Show at the Waikiki Aquarium has grown to become one of the top koi shows in the United States, thanks to our knowledgeable koi judges and experts to guide guests during their visit,” said Waikiki Aquarium Director Andrew Rossiter, Ph.D.

“The koi is the national fish of Japan, and the Aloha Koi Show showcases the rich Japanese heritage here in Hawaii. Koi are a combination of art and biology and serve as a cultural bridge between the East and West.”

Live entertainment for the weekend-long event includes Japanese Koto music presentations.

Cook with your kids and make Heart Healthy Granola.  Recommended for ages 4 and up.  Registration is required.

Cost:  $15 per parent/child pair for members, $22 per parent/child pair for nonmembers.  Additional family members are $8 each.  This price is just for the class, admission to the Center is separate if you want to spend time in the museum and will be discounted $5 for class participants.

Honolulu Museum of Art Family Sunday

The theme for this month’s family Sunday is I Heart Foto. The day focuses on photography and the exhibition Decisive Moments: Photographs from the Collection of Cherye R. and James F. Pierce. There will be arts and crafts and live entertainment.

Visitors can remember the day with a take-home souvenir after mugging for the camera in a Photo Ops Hawaii photo booth located in the Education Lecture Hall.

DRAWING CONTEST For kids (ages 1-17) and adults 18+

The museum gives contestants a theme and drawing supplies. 

The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($100 value), and his or her artwork is used to create the following month’s event brochure and is posted on the museum's website.

Brush Painting for the Chinese New Year

We are predicting a happy and lucky ART time celebrating the Year of the “Wooden Horse” for 2014. Learn the basics of zen Sumi painting and much more. Children will be painting the Chinese zodiac animals in this workshop to make their very own calendar.  Workshop instructor and artist Andy Lee has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including contract work for Marvel, DC Comics, LeBron James, Wizard, and Nike.  Some of his credits include illustrations in Dragonball Z, and Inuyasha Magazine, DC Comics Versus trading cards, Kindred of the East, Vampire, the Masquerade, Ultimate Marvel Team Ups, Spider Man vs. the Master of Kung Fu, Bronze Tiger and Sensei, Beckett, and more.
